Ch. 2: Behind the Mask


At an Autobot Home Base

Batmech had come by in an aircraft about to land as the ground began to open up and it entered underground that is called the Batcave. He landed on the platform. He turned off the engine and stepped out of the aircraft heading over to the monitors in silence and took a seat looking up at the screens then all of the sudden, Batmech heard a voice from behind and he looked back.

"So that's what you were doing." And old voice was heard. "Out flying."

"Hmph," Batmech smirked a bit. "Crime situation, Kup…"

Kup was approaching to him had his arms folded looking at each screen.

"Look, kid. You had been watching too many shows and you caused yourself being like that" he said.

"I know what I'm doing…"

"Sparkblast, you're a squad leader in this team."

Sparkblast. That was his real name under that mask. He sighed taking off his helmet off along with his visor then looked over at Kup.

"I was the squad leader. Remember, the Elite Guard doesn't take second class troops. We're no longer in the list. You know that. Especially what happen to our other three comrades when we were on a restrictive mission. We lost them from that explosion."

"I understand what happened, but this job of yours on what you're doing, it's silly!"

"It is not. It's the best thing I should do. There's a lot of lacking at Gotham City and crime rate kept rising higher and higher. Another thing, it's only the two of us in this base."

"Three now."

Sparkblast's optics widened "What? We have someone here?"

"He told me that they took him out the team and transferred him here. I don't know why they done that to the little mech."

Sparkblast vented and had his arms folded begin thinking about this mech.

"What's his name?" He asked

"His name is Starshadow." said Kup. "A scout."

"Aw great. Just what we need…"

"Just go and meet him!"

"I'm going, Kup! Geez!"

Sparkblast quickly went up the stairs and head out of the Batcave and entered in the hallway of the base.


At the Main Control Room

A black and red young mech, Starshadow, was leaning on the wall waiting for either Kup or Sparkblast to come. Then he heard the sound of footsteps coming close. The young scout looked to the right and saw Sparkblast coming beginning to stand straight looking at the blue and yellow mech coming. Sparkblast stopped in front of the little mech looking down
at him.

"Uh…you must be Starshadow, right?" he spoke.

"Yeah, I'm Starshadow." Starshadow replied.

"Well, welcome, rookie. Though I don't know why the Elite Guard sent you here."

Star suddenly folded his arms looked away in anger. "They said I am not useful…"

"Just like the team is, kid."

"What do you mean?"

"The Elite Guard put this team out, so I supposed this is just our home."

Starshadow looked around the place wondering. He never thought he was sent to a team that is out of the duty. He was getting upset as Sparkblast stared at him  placing his servo on his shoulder.

"Hey," The squad leader spoke. "You alright, Starshadow?"

Starshadow looked back at him. "Oh, yeah, I'm fine.."

"Come on, I'll show you to your room."

Star nodded as Sparks started walking back down the hall and the scout followed.

"So, do you have like stuff to do." Starshadow asked.

"Well, I usually go to the meetings at Autobot Headquarters." Sparkblast lied.

"Oh, alright, but what about here."

"Oh there are a lot of activities to do over here."

"Well at least I won't sit and do nothing."

Sparkblast chuckled. "Yeah, you won't be that bored.

"Hehe, alright then."


At an unknown room

Sparkblast unlocked the door as it opened up and the lights went on. The room was with an empty desk along with a monitor screen, a TV screen on the wall and a berth on the other side of the room. Sparkblast entered in the room and Starshadow followed and looked around.

"This is your room." said Sparkblast.

"Cool." Starshadow smiled approaching to his berth and sat down. "I better go on and recharge now."

Sparks chuckled. "Already? But you just got here, kid."

"Well, you know, I had a long day before I was sent out for no fraggin' reason. I been
training, doing paperwork, getting yelled at-."

"Getting yelled at? By who?"

"My old squad leader."

"The way your tone is, he sounds strict."

"Nah, he has a lot of issues with us. That's why he just kicked some of us out."

"Ah, no wonder you were really here…Kup really didn't tell me all the explanation."

"Well Kup is old. He can't get with all the explanation I told him."

"I heard that!"

Sparkblast turned and saw Kup coming in the room and glared at the rookie. Starshadow chuckled weird tried to act innocent.

"If I ever hear that around this base again, it's going to be me, you, and some beating, kid." The old mech growled.

"Kup, relax." Sparkblast chuckled. "He was only joking."

"Right, what he said." Star spoke so fast.

Kup grumbled then walked off out of the room and back in the hallway. Sparkblast looked at Starshadow and smiled.

"Well, sleep well, Starshadow." He said and left the room as the door close behind him.

Starshadow vented and laid back on his berth. He smiled starting to like his new crew.
